Consider your customers' viewpoint . . .
A Hospital Scenario
Picture yourself lying in a
hospital room awaiting major heart surgery the next day, when the housekeeper
comes in to empty the trash. You ask nervously, “Could you tell my
nurse to come in so I could ask her some questions about preparation
for my surgery?” The worker looks at you blankly and says sheepishly,
“No speak English.”
How infuriating! What an impression you have of
the hospital.
Fortunately, most organizations are aware that anyone
that comes into contact with its customers or co-workers needs to project
the image that the organization is seeking to put forth.
A Corporate Scenario
The corporate world is becoming increasingly focused
on the idea that a positive corporate culture leads to increased productivity,
improved customer service, reduced turnover, and ultimately higher revenues.
“Corporate Culture” is complex even in environments where one
language is spoken. Imagine the challenges when bilinguals and employees
from various cultures are added to the mix. ESL
Educational Services can
help with both cultural training and English language skills.
