An Example of a University Program
This curriculum was created for and taught to a group of visiting international teachers. The program was designed for full-day sessions over the course of six weeks.
The first half of the day was an ESL (English
as a Second Language) class. The class was comprised of lessons on general English, cultural awareness, role-playing, oral presentations, and some basic writing.
The afternoon session focused on content and site visits to educational programs and schools that provided examples of teaching techniques and programs used in America. The question of interest was: How does the American Educational System work? Even though these students had some previous English instruction in their own country, (as is typical) they could not understand spoken English.
At the end of six weeks all students could communicate sufficiently to give short speeches about their native country to American students.
